What is Thermal Imaging Leak Detection?
Thermal Imaging is a non-invasive imaging technique that detects minute differences in surfaces temperatures. It gives invaluable information for tracing the causes of leaks and detecting areas of damp or wet insulation within roofs or behind curtain walling/cladding.
How Does Thermal Imaging Leak Detection Work?
A camera lens focuses the infrared light emitted by all objects within its field of view. The light is digitally processed to produce a thermogram, depicting different temperatures. Temperature differences of as small as 0.2oC can be detected.
What Can It Detect?
- Entrapped water in any areas of the underlying construction.
- Heat transmissions that identify cold bridging and insufficient insulation.
- Air or water leakage into a construction.
Where and When Should It Be Used?
Thermal imaging leak detection is extremely effective in identifying the causes of air or water leakage, mapping out damp areas in any part of the building, and identifying areas where insulation needs to be fitted or replaced.
